As we move deeper and deeper into the mission of Jesus, he increases those who are doing the work by seventy-two. He also asks them to pray for more. In this chapter Luke begins to reveal more details about those who receive the message and those who don’t.
- Jesus warned his disciples that they would be like “sheep among wolves,” yet their purpose was to convey peace. What rationale might people have for rejecting such a message?
- Why is Jesus so critical of the towns of Korazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum?
- Jesus contrasts those who don’t receive his message with those who do: the “wise and learned” reject him, but “little children” receive him. Discuss the nature of the two groups.
- Most people are familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Discuss it. Why has this story inspired so many good deeds?
