As we move deeper and deeper into the mission of Jesus, he increases those who are doing the work by seventy-two. He also asks them to pray for more. In this chapter Luke begins to reveal more details about those who receive the message and those who don’t.

For Discussion:

  1. Jesus warned his disciples that they would be like “sheep among wolves,” yet their purpose was to convey peace. What rationale might people have for rejecting such a message?
  2. Why is Jesus so critical of the towns of Korazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum?
  3. Jesus contrasts those who don’t receive his message with those who do: the “wise and learned” reject him, but “little children” receive him. Discuss the nature of the two groups.
  4. Most people are familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Discuss it. Why has this story inspired so many good deeds?
